Cooking, Creating, Competing ….
Gold Medal Plates is the ultimate celebration of Canadian Excellence in food, wine, sport and community. Celebrated in seven cities across Canada in 2006, Gold Medal Plates will feature Canada’s premier chefs in each city, paired with Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes and superb wines, in a competition to crown a gold, silver and bronze medal culinary team in each city, and subsequently nation-wide.
This prestigious event was founded in 2003 with the goal to raise substantial funds for Canada’s elite athletes, while celebrating Canadian excellence in its myriad forms. In 2004 and 2005, Gold Medal Plates and Road to Champions (a variation on the primary theme) received tremendous support
and accolades all across Canada, and generated a combined total of $950,000 for Canada’s elite athletes!
CULINARY COMPETITION:
Gold Medal Plates 2006 will be staged in seven major Canadian cities. The top ten chefs from each city have been selected by a national and regional panel of judges and will compete in each city for the honour of being the Gold Medal Plates champion for 2006! These chefs will create their ultimate chef’s creation, which will be paired with a premier Canadian wine. Hosting Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes will be paired with the chefs and will be on hand to meet all guests. A team of food and wine critics from each region will work with national critics and a local jury to decide the top three winning creations. Each city will crown a gold, silver and bronze medal winning chef.
OLYMPIAN AND PARALYMPIAN FEATURED SPEAKERS
As a climatic highlight to the evening, right after the crowning of the winning chefs, two Canadian Olympic or Paralympic gold medal winning athletes will share their remarkable stories of their journey to the podium. Confirmed keynote speakers include Catriona Le May Doan, Clara Hughes, Paul Rosen and Cassie Campbell. A marvelous live auction will enhance the evening, where unique and one-of-a-kind experiences will be auctioned off to the lucky bidder. Items such as a four day cycling and rare wine tour of the Napa Valley, hosted by Simon Whitfield, or golfing and adventure in Arizona with Catriona Le May Doan will be auctioned. In some cities there will be a rare wine auction, with world-class wine available for purchase.
